A 40-year-old Schuylkill County man, charged with shooting his daughter’s boyfriend in the groin, surrendered Wednesday to face attempted homicide and related counts, according to a published report.

Donald Jenkins Jr., of Shenandoah, was transferred from Pottsville police to Pennsylvania State Police and was arraigned Wednesday afternoon before District Judge Christina E. Hale, the Republican Herald newspaper in Pottsville and records show.

Jenkins is charged with shooing Emmanuel Cancel, 29, on Sunday afternoon in a room at a Motel 6, in West Mahanoy Township in the county, the newspaper said.

Jenkins’ daughter Jasmine Marie Jenkins, 20, rented the room and was there at the time of the argument and subsequent shooting, the newspaper said.

Jasmine Marie Jenkins told authorities that her father was upset because she was going out with Cancel, the newspaper said, citing court papers.

Donald Jenkins Jr. was sent to county prison in lieu of $250,000 bail, records show. He tentatively faces a preliminary hearing 10:10 a.m. Nov. 6 in Hale’s court.
