PennDOT Offers Tips for Driving in the Snow

Dunmore Beats Mt. Carmel Area 56-49 in Girls Basketball Opener

In an early season test for both teams, the Dunmore girls basketball team beat Mt. Carmel Area on the road, 56-49.

Southern Columbia vs Dunmore football

Our final two local teams, Southern Columbia and Dunmore met in the Class ‘AA’ Eastern Finals at Danville HS.  The Bucks held a 13-7 lead midway through the first quarter before the Tigers explosive offense scored 49 unanswered points in their 56-19 win.  Sophomore rushed for over 200 yards and four Touchdowns as Southern advanced to the State Title game for a record 16th time.

Southern Columbia leads the State in scoring at 50.7 PPG.  Dunmore is second in scoring defense, allowing just 91 points all season. That defense and big offensive line gives the Bucks a shot against the Tigers in the ‘AA’ Eastern Finals.

Dunmore ready for Southern Columbia

Dunmore went through the first 12 games of the season pretty much untested.  But, boy did the Bucks come through after trailing Ligonier Valley by a 14-0 score last week.  Dunmore rallied to a 23-20 victory, that places them against powerful Southern Columbia in Friday’s ‘AA’ Eastern Final at Danville.  The Bucks will be underdogs, but they will be up to the challenge just like they were when they beat the Tigers in States five years ago.

Dunmore Beats Ligonier Valley 23-20 to Reach State Semifinals

The Dunmore football team held on to beat Ligonier Valley 23-20. With the win, the Bucks advance to the state “AA” semifinal against Southern Columbia.

World War I Memorial Unveiled in Dunmore

DUNMORE — A memorial unveiled in Lackawanna County Saturday honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice during World War I. Etched into the memorial in Dunmore are the names of 262 veterans from Lackawanna County. “It makes you feel proud, and you’re not alone. Everybody’s together. It’s just a wonderful thing,” said Thomas Coar of Scranton. The new memorial is located at South Blakely and Cherry Streets in Dunmore.

Fight Ends in Crash in Lackawanna County

DUNMORE — A fight ended with a crash near a former shopping center in Lackawanna County. A car hit a pole and ended up in the woods next to the former Monroe Plaza in Dunmore just after 2 a.m. on Friday. Police say it started earlier with an argument between the woman driving and a man.
