Drunk Sands patron kicks cop, threatens to kill ‘every officer,’ police say

The 30-year-old was with two others being asked to leave the casino after they’d “apparently had too much to drink.”

A 30-year-old woman asked to leave Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem became combative with Bethlehem police, kicking one officer and threatening to kill others, according to court records.

Kara M. McCabe, no current address, was locked up on $100,000 bail in the Sunday evening incident.

Police responded about 6:25 p.m. to the casino on the city’s South Side for three people described as “highly intoxicated and refusing to leave,” records say.

McCabe was being held up by the others as Sands security were escorting them to the parking garage but “threw herself to the ground in the middle of the roadway,” according to police.

Asked for identification, McCabe was abusive toward police and warned “to calm down or she will be arrested,” records say. “She continued her behavior and she was placed in custody.”

The two with her were described as cooperative with and respectful toward police. Neither was charged with any crime in the incident. One explained they’d been in a high-roller area “and apparently had too much to drink,” court records say.

McCabe screamed and kicked inside the back of a patrol vehicle and refused orders to take her feet of the partition behind the front seats, police said.

She continued to be “very abusive” toward police and said “she was going to get everyone,” records say.

At police headquarters, McCabe cursed at police and refused to sit in a chair, so one officer “grabbed her and placed her in the chair to a seated position,” according to police. McCabe allegedly kicked the officer three times in the legs before he and a second officer got her “to the ground and under control.”

Secured then with leg shackles, McCabe said she “would kill every officer” and continued to try to kick police, court records say.

One-time Lehigh Valley strip club is no more

McCabe was arraigned Sunday night before District Judge Nancy Matos Gonzalez on a felony count of aggravated assault in addition to misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.

She was sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Matos Gonzalez agreed to 10 percent bail if approved by Northampton County Pretrial Services. If released, McCabe would need to remain drug- and alcohol-free and undergo weekly urine screens, undergo a drug-and-alcohol evaluation, provide an address and stay off Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem property, pending disposition of the case.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled Oct. 26 before District Judge Joseph Barner.
