Snyder County Courthouse Open after Threat

MIDDLEBURG — The Snyder County Courthouse and surrounding road have reopened after being closed Monday morning for an “emergency situation.” Routes 104 and 522 were closed and the building was cleared out after reports of a bomb threat. The sheriff’s department checked out the building and the place was reopened after no bomb was found.

Bomb Threat Closes Shopping Center

SHAMOKIN DAM — A bomb threat forced the evacuation of several businesses at a shopping center in Snyder County Tuesday morning. According to troopers, someone called the cell phone of a student at Empire Beauty School in Shamokin Dam, claiming there was a bomb there. As a precaution, the Orchard Hills Shopping Center was evacuated. A bomb-sniffing dog searched the area but found nothing.

Korean War Soldier’s Remains Coming Home After 66 Years

ADAMS TOWNSHIP — A family in central Pennsylvania wondered for 66 years what happened to their brother’s remains after he died during the Korean War. Now, they finally have answers and are able to give the soldier a proper funeral. Private First Class Walter Hackenburg was declared dead in 1951 while he was a prisoner of war in Korea. Deadly Crash in Snyder County

MONROE TOWNSHIP — A woman from Winfield is dead following a crash early morning on Friday in Snyder County. Angela Benfer, 56, was driving along Fisher Road in Monroe Township when troopers say she went off the road and struck a tree. Troopers say the roadway was wet at the time. A 15-year-old passenger was also in the car at the time of the crash but according to police that passenger was evaluated and released.

CENTRAL PA — Flash floods swept into many communities in Central Pennsylvania Friday afternoon.
